The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on Sunday issued notices to eight food business operators over the use of potentially misleading brand names, trade names, and product claims that may violate provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

The companies that received notices include Emami Healthy & Tasty, Health Aid, Troovy, The Healthy Factory, Healthy Master, Healthy Choice, Plan B, and Neuherbs. The food regulator disclosed the action through its official social media platforms.

Among the major brands under scrutiny is Emami Healthy & Tasty, the cooking oils business of the Kolkata-based Emami Group. According to FSSAI, the company's trade name could mislead consumers and appears to be inconsistent with applicable regulatory provisions.

Plan B, which promotes its products as "plant-based vegan," has also been flagged. The regulator said the branding may create the impression that the products are certified vegan despite the company not obtaining prior approval for vegan food endorsement under its FSSAI licence.

The Healthy Factory has come under scrutiny for its "Zero Maida Whole Wheat Bread," which contains ingredients such as chakki fresh atta and wheat gluten. FSSAI said the product's labeling could be misleading. Similar concerns have been raised regarding the company's "zero maida pizza base," with the regulator indicating that the claim may not comply with existing regulations.

Neuherbs was cited for its "True Vitamin" product range. FSSAI noted that the term is neither defined nor recognized under its regulatory framework, making it potentially misleading for consumers.

Troovy's snack portfolio, including products such as "Healthy Mix Veggie Chips," "Healthy Ragi Chips," and "Healthy Moong Dal Chips," was also flagged for promoting "healthy" claims despite containing multiple other ingredients.

Additionally, the regulator raised concerns about Healthy Master's tagline, "Vision to serve healthy," Healthy Choice's branding of "Healthy food for Healthy life Poha," and Health Aid's brand name, stating that such descriptions may create misleading impressions about the nature or health benefits of the products.
