More than one crore students, teachers, parents and citizens across over 25,000 locations will sing the complete Vande Mataram together at 11 am on Friday, September 25, 2026, as part of the nationwide Namami Bharatam programme.
Organised by Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan, New Delhi, the event will commemorate the 150th year of Vande Mataram under the theme “One Voice - One Resolve - One India.”
The initiative is designed to familiarise younger generations with the historical journey of Vande Mataram, its role in India’s freedom movement and its continuing importance in the country’s public life. Schools participating in the programme are also conducting interactive sessions, exhibitions, cultural events and other activities focused on the song’s history and contribution to the freedom struggle.
Vande Mataram helped awaken nationalist sentiment during the freedom movement. Following Independence, it was given the status of India’s National Song, while Jana Gana Mana was adopted as the National Anthem.
The 150-year journey of Vande Mataram and its contribution to the nation will be commemorated through programmes held across the country. The collective singing initiative has been listed for record certification by the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records, which are assessing the participation of the largest number of students and members of the public singing simultaneously at multiple locations.
Both record organisations have extended their best wishes to Vidya Bharati schools and the Namami Bharatam campaign.
In Delhi, more than one lakh students, teachers, parents and citizens are expected to take part at approximately 300 locations, according to Dr Satish Maheshwari, General Secretary, Vidya Bharati Delhi Prant.
The main Delhi programme will take place at 11 am on September 25 at the PGDAV College Campus on Ring Road in Nehru Nagar, Lajpat Nagar. Deshraj Sharma, All India General Secretary, Vidya Bharati, will attend the event as chief guest.
Other Delhi programmes are scheduled at Mata Leelawanti Saraswati Bal Mandir in Hari Nagar, where Sukhraj Sethia, Chairman, North Zone, Vidya Bharati, will be the chief guest; Saraswati Bal Mandir in Rajouri Garden, with Dr Satish Maheshwari as chief guest; and Shri Sanatan Dharam Saraswati Bal Mandir in Punjabi Bagh, with Dr Anil Agrawal, Sanghchalak, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Delhi Prant, as chief guest.
The programme is intended to help young people connect with the memories of India’s freedom struggle, strengthen their association with Indian culture and promote a deeper sense of national unity.
