The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) on Tuesday declared the results of the Higher Secondary (HS) examinations for 2025, with girls outperforming boys across all major streams—Arts, Science, Commerce, and Vocational.
This year, female candidates posted an impressive overall pass percentage of 82.95 per cent, significantly ahead of their male counterparts, who recorded a 78.42 per cent pass rate. The results were officially released at 9 a.m. and are accessible on the Board’s website and affiliated portals.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated students who cleared the Higher Secondary examinations, lauding their sincerity and hard work. “To all those who could not clear it this time, remember you can always restart and achieve your goals,” he added in a post on X.
Over three lakh students appeared in the examinations this year. Among the streams, Science recorded the highest pass percentage at 84.88 per cent, followed closely by Commerce at 82.18 per cent and Arts at 81.03 per cent. The Vocational stream, meanwhile, registered a more modest 68.55 per cent success rate.
In the Arts stream, the largest cohort with 2,26,756 students, a total of 1,84,745 cleared the examinations. Of these, 49,577 students secured first division, while 80,650 and 53,518 obtained second and third divisions, respectively.
The Science stream saw 56,909 candidates appear, with 48,309 passing. Notably, 25,827 candidates secured first division, followed by 19,286 in second division and 3,196 in third. Female Science students recorded a marginally higher pass percentage of 85.54 per cent, compared to 84.39 per cent among males.
Among districts, West Karbi Anglong achieved a rare feat with a 100 per cent pass rate in Science. Sivasagar (97.13 per cent) and Baksa (95.66 per cent) also posted high success rates. In contrast, Dima Hasao recorded the lowest pass rate at 56.27 per cent in the stream.
In Commerce, 17,746 students appeared, of whom 14,584 cleared the exams. First division marks were awarded to 6,519 students, while 5,760 and 2,305 made it to the second and third divisions respectively. Female candidates again outshone male peers with 82.40 per cent, slightly ahead of the 82.08 per cent recorded by boys.
In a remarkable outcome, South Salmara district secured a 100 per cent pass rate in Commerce among its 11 candidates.
In the Vocational stream, 824 students passed. The stream witnessed continued gender disparity with 74.39 per cent females passing, compared to 65.53 per cent males.
Baksa district topped the overall district-wise performance charts with a 95.21 per cent success rate, followed by Darrang at 93.82 per cent. Cachar district, however, lagged behind with just 58.96 per cent.
Departing from past practice, the Board did not release a list of toppers this year.
