Assam's Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu, known for his active engagement on social media, recently announced the successful completion of handwriting training for 2100 teachers.

This initiative, led by the Assam government under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, aims to equip educators with effective methods to enhance students' handwriting skills.

Commending the initiave, Assam Education Minister Pegu shared on social media platform X, "Assam Govt led by @himantabiswa has started training School Teachers on handwriting. 2100 teachers have completed training and we have the results. This is a sample handwriting of a Class V student from Changsari Adarsha High School."

Previously, in August last year, the state introduced the "Jolly Phonics" teaching approach across 400 schools in Kamrup Metro and Kamrup Rural districts.

This decision followed findings from the National Achievement Survey (NAS), highlighting challenges faced by early-grade students in reading English with proper pronunciation and writing fluently.

Acknowledging the persistence of traditional teaching methods among some educators, the government opted for phonics—a contemporary teaching technique designed to improve English language proficiency by spotlighting correct pronunciation and effective writing.

The initiatives comes in line with the Assam's governements education reforms initiatives undertaken by CM Sarma.
