Rohini, an 18-year-old girl from the tribal community in the Pachamalai Hills of Tiruchirappalli district, Tamil Nadu, has made history. She has become the first tribal girl from her district to gain admission to a prestigious National Institute of Technology (NIT). Rohini achieved this remarkable feat by clearing the highly competitive Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).

Scoring 73.8 per cent in JEE Mains, Rohini emerged as the top scorer among students from 29 tribal schools in the state. Her impressive performance earned her a seat in the Chemical Engineering program at NIT Trichy, allocated through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).

Expressing her gratitude, Rohini shared, “I am a student from a tribal community who studied in a government school. Securing 73.8 per cent in the JEE exam has allowed me to gain admission to NIT Trichy for Chemical Engineering. The Tamil Nadu state government has generously agreed to cover all my fees. I am thankful to the Chief Minister and my school staff, especially my headmaster, for their support.”

Rohini also credited her teachers for their relentless encouragement and support over the past two years. “I can’t forget my teacher’s hard work. They motivated me to appear for all major exams, including NEET, CLAT, and JEE. I’ve always aspired to be an engineer, and now I have the chance to study at NIT Trichy. I hope to inspire and assist students from my school to achieve similar success,” she added.

Rohini’s parents, both construction workers, had migrated to Kerala in hopes of securing a better future for their children. Her achievement not only brings pride to her family but also serves as an inspiration to many in her community.
