TOEFL scores regain validity for Australian visa applications, ETS confirms

TOEFL scores from exams on or after May 5, 2024, are now acceptable for Australian visa applications, as per ETS.

The Educational Testing Service (ETS) has announced that scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) will now be accepted for all Australian visa purposes, effective immediately.

The decision follows a review by the Australian Department of Home Affairs (DHA) last July, during which TOEFL scores were temporarily not accepted.

According to ETS, scores for TOEFL exams taken on or after May 5, 2024, will now be considered valid for Australian visa applications.

This update comes as welcome news for prospective Indian students and working professionals, as Australia remains a top destination for education and career opportunities. Last year, over 1.2 lakh Indian students chose Australia for their studies.

The TOEFL is a widely recognised standardised test used to assess the English language proficiency of non-native speakers seeking admission to English-speaking universities.

Accepted by more than 12,500 institutions in over 160 countries, the TOEFL is a key requirement for international students aspiring to study abroad.

It holds universal recognition in popular study destinations such as the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand and is accepted by over 98 percent of universities in the United Kingdom.

Sachin Jain, Country Manager for ETS India and South Asia, highlighted Australia's appeal, citing the presence of nine Australian universities in the top 100 global rankings according to the latest QS World University Rankings. He emphasised Australia's reputation for offering world-class higher education and post-study work opportunities.
