Nearly three-quarters of eligible voters turned out on April 19 to elect representatives for the majority of seats in the 60-member assembly in the northeastern state, marking a notable 76.44% voter participation.

The Election Commission of India has called for a re-poll in eight polling stations across Arunachal Pradesh following reports of EVM damage and violence during the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections on April 19, according to an official statement.

In response to these incidents, the Commission declared the original polling in these stations as void and scheduled fresh voting to take place on April 24, from 6 am to 2 pm, as communicated by Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Liken Koyu.

The polling stations identified for re-polling include Sario in the Bameng assembly constituency of East Kameng district, Longte Loth under the Nyapin assembly seat in Kurung Kumey, and several others in Upper Subansiri and Siang districts.

A significant voter turnout of 76.44 per cent was recorded on April 19, with almost 90 percent of eligible voters exercising their franchise to elect 50 MLAs for the 60-member assembly in the northeastern state. Additionally, the ruling BJP secured 10 assembly seats uncontested.
