This year's Haryana Assembly polls witnessed a significant change in the number of voters across Jat, Ahir, and Muslim-dominated seats.
The most notable fluctuation was observed in Jat-dominated seats, where voters make up around 35 pc of the electorate across 19 constituencies, where voter percentage was increased in 9 assembly constituencies and declined for 10 seats.
The BJP won three seats—Kalayat, Loharu, and Hodal—from this bloc in 2019, but turnout improved in only the last two seats this time. Notably, in Kalayat, turnout decreased, and the BJP was not in the race for the seat.
In overall voter turnout, Faridabad recorded the lowest percentage, with Gurugram being at 49.97 pc, the second lowest. Mewat topped the list with 62.28 pc of voter turnout in the assembly elections held on October 5.
Major constituencies showed a drop in voter percentage like the Shahbad assembly recorded the most significant decline in voter turnout, falling by 6.75 pc, followed closely by Pundri with a 5.14 pc drop and Garhi Sampla Kiloi at 5.34 pc.
On the other hand, the Kosli Assembly emerged as a standout with the highest voter pc increase, seeing a 7.4 pc rise. This was followed by Loharu and Panipat City, which reported increases of 7.39 pc and 7.13 pc, respectively.
In seats with a significant Muslim population, spanning four constituencies—Nuh, Ferozepur Jhirka, Punahana, and Hathin—the voter turnout saw an upward trend, rising by 1.29 pc.
In Ahir-dominated seats, which covers nine constituencies, there was a modest increase in voter turnout by 0.77 pc.
However, this pattern was not uniform across all Ahir-dominated areas. In five seats, turnout dropped, while in three constituencies, the turnout grew.
Interestingly, the Pataudi assembly constituency experienced no change in voter turnout, remaining at 44. 20 pc.
The 90 assembly seats in Haryana went to polls on October 5. The results are to be declared on October 8.
The exit polls released at 6 PM on Saturday indicate Congress scoring a majority in the state.
