A 62-year-old man, Akhtar Hussain, died of a suspected cardiac arrest outside a polling booth in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district on Monday, according to officials.
The incident occurred outside booth 193 at the Government Upgraded High School in Bhuchungdih village, Chitarpur block, within the Hazaribag Lok Sabha constituency.
Hussain collapsed on the road and was pronounced dead at the scene.
"A detailed report has been requested from local authorities," stated Deputy Commissioner Chandan Kumar.
BDO Gyan Shankar Ekka confirmed the death, noting that Hussain lived about 500 meters from the polling booth. "He died of a possible cardiac arrest," Ekka said.
Md Mustaque Ahmed, the deceased’s son, recounted, "My father wanted to vote early in the morning and arrived at the polling booth at 6:30 am. He was asked to stand in the queue but collapsed soon after."
Booth Level Officer Shanti Devi mentioned that two elderly individuals had reached the booth before polling commenced and were asked to wait until the polling officially started.
P. Parmeshwar Karmali, the presiding officer of the booth, confirmed that Hussain's death occurred outside the polling station.
Md Imran Ansari, a family member, criticised the lack of medical facilities at the polling station, highlighting the absence of immediate medical assistance.
Hussain is survived by eight sons and a daughter, adding to the grief of the family who mourn the sudden loss of their patriarch.
