Faridkot Lok Sabha constituency in Punjab gears up for a captivating showdown as the BJP nominates a renowned Sufi singer while AAP puts forward a popular Punjabi actor and singer for the upcoming elections.

Scheduled for June 1, polling will decide the fate of 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab. AAP's contender is Karamjit Anmol, whereas the BJP's candidate is Hans Raj Hans, who is currently representing North West Delhi.

The incumbent MP from Faridkot is Congress's Mohammad Sadique, a celebrated Punjabi folk singer. Congress has yet to unveil its candidate for the constituency.

With 15 years of political experience and currently serving as MP for North West Delhi, Hans Raj Hans ventures to contest from his home state.

The electoral landscape promises an intriguing clash of personalities and ideologies, shaping the political narrative in Faridkot.

Asked how he sees AAP nominee Karamjit Anmol as a contestant against him, Hans said, "Anmol is my younger brother. Wherever he meets me, he respects me." On Congress MP Sadique, Hans said he was like a father figure to him.

"Whenever I meet him, I touch his feet. In Parliament, we meet each other. He is a legend, and I respect him a lot," said the BJP candidate.

"I will speak about what I did there (Delhi) and what I will do here," Hans told PTI.

Hans Raj Hans, aged 62, commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi, lauding his efforts for the Sikh community, particularly highlighting the inauguration of the Kartarpur corridor as a significant achievement. This corridor connects Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan, the revered resting place of Sikhism's founder, Guru Nanak Dev, to the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district.

Originating from Shafipur village in Jalandhar district, Hans ventured into politics in 2009 by affiliating with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) but faced an unsuccessful attempt at securing the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat. Subsequently, he parted ways with SAD in 2014, briefly aligning with the Congress before transitioning to the BJP.

In 2019, Hans won the North West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency under the BJP banner.

Hans, a recipient of the Padma Shri award, has left an indelible mark in Punjabi music with renowned songs such as 'Dil Tote Tote Ho Gaya', 'Dil Chori Sada Ho Gaya', and 'Nachi Jo Saade Naal'.

On the other hand, AAP's nominee, Karamjit Anmol, commands popularity as a distinguished actor-singer known for his association with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, with whom he campaigned during the 2022 Punjab assembly elections. Anmol's cinematic repertoire boasts hits like 'Carry on Jatta', 'Nikka Zaildar', and 'Muklawa'.

During public addresses, Anmol commended Punjab CM Mann for his integrity and honesty.
