Amit Shah will arrive in Assam on Thursday evening to campaign for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates ahead of the Assembly elections, with a roadshow scheduled in Guwahati and rallies planned across the state over the next two days.
Shah will participate in a roadshow in support of BJP’s Guwahati Central candidate Vijay Gupta. The procession will begin from Arya Vidyapeeth Playground and pass through key areas of the constituency. He is also slated to meet party office bearers later in the day.
On Sunday, the Union Home Minister will campaign for minister Ashok Singhal at the Dhekiajuli Tea Estate football field in Sonitpur district. He will subsequently travel to Tihu in Nalbari district to address a rally in support of minister Chandramohan Patowary at the Chamata Higher Secondary School field, concluding his two-day visit.
Shah is scheduled to return to the state on April 2 to continue campaigning in the Barak Valley region. During that visit, he will address rallies for minister Krishnendu Paul in Sribhumi district and former Member of Parliament Rajdeep Roy in Silchar.
The campaign assumes significance as political parties intensify outreach efforts ahead of the polls to the 126-member Assam Assembly. Voting is scheduled to be held on April 9, while counting of votes will take place on May 4.
The BJP has stepped up its campaign in the state, with senior leaders addressing rallies and roadshows across constituencies in a bid to consolidate support.
