The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee has announced that it will contest the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) independently, while keeping the door open for possible alliances with like-minded parties.

State Congress president Asish Kumar Saha made the announcement at a press conference on Sunday, stating that the party is preparing to enter the polls with full strength.

“The Congress will contest the TTAADC elections with full strength. However, if any like-minded party is interested in an understanding, they are welcome,” Saha said.

He added that the party has nearly completed the candidate selection process across constituencies, with the final list to be released after approval from the central leadership.

“The candidates for each constituency have almost been finalised, and the official list will be published soon after internal and central leadership approval. The Congress aims to coordinate with regional allies to put up strong competition against the BJP and Tipra Motha,” he said.

Saha said the party’s campaign would focus on socio-economic development in tribal areas, alleging that Sixth Schedule regions have remained neglected over the years.

“We will not make unrealistic promises to indigenous people. However, issues such as direct funding to the tribal council, introduction of Roman script for the Kokborok language and passage of the TTAADC Empowerment Bill (125th Constitutional Amendment) will be in our manifesto,” he said.

The Congress leader also noted that preparations for the polls have been underway for the past two months, particularly through the party’s Adivasi Congress wing.

The announcement signals Congress’s attempt to regain political ground in tribal areas, where it faces stiff competition from the BJP and the Tipra Motha Party. The TTAADC polls are expected to be a crucial test of political influence among indigenous communities in the state.
