Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the countdown for the removal of the LDF government in Kerala has begun and asserted that a BJP-led NDA will come to power in the state.
Addressing a BJP-led NDA rally in Pathanamthitta district, Modi said party workers in Kerala have signalled a strong mood to bid farewell to Left rule. Elections to 140 Assembly seats in the state will be held on April 9.
The Prime Minister said that if the BJP comes to power, it will ensure development in Kerala as seen in six of the seven northeastern states and Goa, which have significant Christian populations. He said Kerala has great potential but continues to lag behind other states in development.
Alleging poor infrastructure in rural areas, Modi said the LDF and UDF had failed to pay adequate attention. He added that the NDA government at the Centre has made significant efforts for Kerala’s development despite the absence of a BJP government in the state.

He claimed the Centre has spent five times more on development in Kerala compared to the Congress-led UPA regimes. Modi also accused the Left government of delaying the Sabari rail project, causing losses to people in Thiruvalla.
Promising a “double-engine government”, he said all obstacles would be removed if the NDA comes to power. “This is Modi’s guarantee,” he added.
The Prime Minister also highlighted women-centric schemes, migration of youth for jobs, and alleged that corruption and communalism are key obstacles to Kerala’s development.
Referring to the West Asia conflict, Modi accused Congress leaders of making statements that create distrust and fear, asserting that the safety of Indians in Gulf countries remains his top priority.
He also alleged that the LDF and UDF have a “secret partnership” and described their rivalry as “like that of the WWF”.
Concluding his speech, Modi extended greetings for Easter and Vishu.
