Founder and supremo of Tipra Motha Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on Friday claimed that his party is poised to secure 24 of the 28 seats in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections, asserting that strong organisational presence and positive ground feedback point to a comfortable majority.
Addressing a party gathering at Gandacherra, Debbarma said the party’s outreach efforts and connect with grassroots voters have strengthened its electoral prospects. He urged voters to back the party’s symbol to ensure stable governance within the council.
Highlighting the importance of a decisive mandate, Debbarma cautioned against fragmentation of votes among regional players, specifically referring to the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura. While acknowledging its past contributions, he argued that a split in votes could indirectly benefit the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the 28-member council.

In a video message released shortly before the end of campaigning, Debbarma made a final appeal to voters, stating that several assurances made over the past two years regarding the rights and welfare of indigenous communities remain unfulfilled. He said this underlines the need for a clear and strong electoral verdict.
Polling for the TTAADC elections is scheduled for April 12, with counting set to take place on April 17. Debbarma emphasised that a strong numerical mandate would be critical for the party to effectively implement its commitments.
He also reiterated that, if voted to power, the council would prioritise the formal recognition of languages spoken by tribal communities, including Mizos, Reangs and Chakmas, as part of broader efforts to safeguard indigenous identity and rights.
The elections to the 28-member Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council are being closely watched, with parties stepping up their final outreach campaigns as voters prepare to cast their ballots.
