Campaigning for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections ended at 4 pm on Friday, with authorities stepping up security measures and imposing restrictions to ensure smooth polling scheduled for April 12.
The elections, which will be held across 28 constituencies in the ADC areas, have seen a multi-cornered contest, with the Tipra Motha Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerging as the principal contenders. Other parties, including the CPI(M), Congress and the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), are
also in the fray.
Security arrangements have been significantly intensified ahead of polling. Director General of Police Anurag said a total of 24 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), including personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), have been allocated for deployment.
A senior police official said four companies had already arrived in the state, while 20 more were expected to be deployed by Friday. Security forces have been conducting regular patrolling and flag marches in sensitive areas to instil confidence among voters and deter any potential disturbances.
In addition to security deployment, the district administration has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, particularly in West Tripura district.
