“Sherlock” star Andrew Scott and “The Roses” actress Olivia Colman are set to headline “Elsinore”, a new film based on the life of Scottish stage and screen actor Ian Charleson.
“The Dig” fame Simon Stone will direct the movie while Stephen Beresford has penned the script. The film is being presented by StudioCanal, LD Entertainment, Lucky Red and Magnolia Mae Films.
“Elsinore” is described as a “deeply moving and inspiring true story” of Charleson, who had to face incredible challenges while preparing to give the “performance of his life” in “Hamlet” at the National Theatre in London.
Charleson died in 1990 from AIDS-related complications. He was diagnosed with HIV in 1986. He was the first UK celebrity to have died due to complications openly attributed to AIDS, raising awareness for the condition.

Scott will play the Charleson himself, while Colman will essay the role of his doctor.
The film will also boast of an ensemble cast featuring "acclaimed British actors" who will be announced closer to production, the official press release stated.
Scott is also one of the producers of the film, while Beresford is an executive producer along with Ethan Silverman who created the project.

“Elsinore” will start shooting on January 5, 2026.
