“Hamnet” star Jacobi Jupe is set to join Scarlet Johansson in the new “Exorcist” movie.
The latest film under the horror franchise is being produced by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Morgan Creek Entertainment and Mike Flanagan's Red Room Pictures banner.
The film, being touted as a “fresh, bold” iteration on the supernatural horror title, has been written and directed by Flanagan. The project follows the production house’s ill-fated effort to launch a franchise with 2023’s “The Exorcist: Believer”. The film, however, is neither a remake nor a sequel, the makers have stated.
The original “Exorcist”, based on the novel by William Peter Blatty and directed by William Friedkin, followed the story of a young girl possessed by a demon and the priests that try to save her. The film had won 10 Oscar nominations.

The series of follow-ups mostly told the stories around the girl (now grown-up), of featured the back stories of the priests or other demonic case that the detectives from the first movie had investigated.
Principal photography for “Exorcist” is due to begin March in New York. Plot details are being kept under wraps but it is believed that Jupe will be playing Johansson’s son.
Jupe, who is the brother of “A Quiet Place” actor Noah Jupe, stars as the titular character in “Hamnet” with Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal. The film is one of the most acclaimed movies of the year and is now a top award contender. Jupe has been nominated for the London Film Critics Circle in the category of young British/ Irish performer of the year for his performance, and also received a Critics Choice Award nomination for best young actor.
