Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman was admitted to a hospital in Chennai following dehydration and neck pain induced by travel, his team confirmed on Saturday.
The 58-year-old musician underwent medical tests, all of which returned normal results. He is expected to be discharged later in the day, sources stated.
Refuting rumours about his health, Rahman’s team dismissed reports suggesting he had been hospitalised due to chest pain.
“It’s fake news (on heart issues) spreading now. Rahman went to hospital because he got dehydrated and has neck pain due to travel,” his team clarified.
Currently engrossed in multiple musical projects and live performances, Rahman recently performed alongside British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran during the latter’s Mathematics Tour concert in Chennai last month.
Several videos from the event showed the duo performing together on stage, enthralling fans with a remix of Sheeran’s Shape of You and Rahman’s iconic Urvasi.

Following the concert, Sheeran expressed his admiration for Rahman via Instagram, writing, “What an honor @arrahman.”
Rahman is also set to compose music for the upcoming film Tere Ishk Mein, starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon. The film, directed by Anand L. Rai, is billed as a spiritual sequel to the 2013 blockbuster Raanjhanaa.
Meanwhile, Rahman’s personal life recently made headlines after his former wife, Saira Banu, was hospitalised due to a medical emergency requiring surgery.
The news was disclosed by her lawyer, Vandana Shah, in an official statement.
Rahman and Saira Banu had announced their separation on 19 November 2024, marking the end of their nearly 29-year marriage.
