Cate Blanchett and Selena Gomez are set to star alongside Michael Fassbender in “The Brutalist” director Brady Corbet’s upcoming film.

The high-profile casting was accidentally revealed by Blanchett during a Cannes Film Festival masterclass, where she let slip that she was about to work with Corbet.

While official plot details for the untitled project remain strictly under wraps, Corbet had previously hinted in interviews that his next feature will be an "X-rated" story set in the 1970s.

"The film spans from the 19th century into the present day, it's just predominantly focused on the '70s. The film is really, really genre-defying," Corbet had said in a previous interview.

The film is reportedly being shot using very rare eight-perf 65mm cameras. At the Storyhouse Screenwriting Festival in Dublin last month, Corbet teased that the new film will be lengthy, saying it has a 200-page script. By comparison, "The Brutalist" was a 165-page script and had a three-and-a-half-hour runtime.

Andrew Morrison is producing the next Corbet project for his Kaplan Morrison production banner. It will mark Corbet's fourth feature, having directed 2015's "The Childhood of a Leader" and 2018's "Vox Lux" before "The Brutalist."

Oscar-winning actor Blanchett has worked with auteurs, including Martin Scorsese, Guillermo del Toro, David Fincher and Wes Anderson. She most recently starred in Jim Jarmusch's "Father Mother Sister Brother," which won the Golden Lion at last year's Venice Film Festival.

According to reports, Cate won the best supporting actress Oscar for her performance as Katharine Hepburn in Scorsese's “The Aviator” (2004) and took home the best actress trophy for Woody Allen's 2013 drama “Blue Jasmine”.

Gomez, in addition to being a global pop star and the founder of makeup brand Rare Beauty, has also had a long acting career. After starting on the Disney Channel with series “Wizards of Waverly Place”, Gomez broke out in Harmony Korine's 2012 romp “Spring Breakers” and most recently starred in Jacques Audiard's “Emilia Perez”, which won her a Cannes best actress award alongside Zoe Saldana, Karla Sofia Gascon and Adriana Paz. She has also led five seasons of the Hulu series "Only Murders in the Building," which has earned her an Emmy nomination and has been renewed for a sixth season.
