FIR against actor Vijay Deverakonda under SC/ST Act

As per police, the actor purportedly likened the recent terror attack in Pahalgam to tribal wars 500 years ago.

A case was filed against actor Vijay Deverakonda under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, for his purported comments regarding tribal people in a pre-release event of a movie here, police added on Sunday. As per police, the actor purportedly likened the recent terror attack in Pahalgam to tribal wars 500 years ago when he addressed the event this April.

 

The actor commented in April. But on a complaint a case under SC/ST Act was registered against him on June 17," a police officer informed the media. The complaint made by Nenavath Ashok Kumar Naik Alias Ashok Rathod, State President, Joint Action Committee of Tribal Communities stated that the actor in the movie who took part in the pre-release function of the movie entitled 'Retro', in which hero Surya has acted, gave remarks that offended the sentiments of the tribals and insulted them very seriously Rathod accused Deverakonda of comparing tribals to Pakistani terrorists and his remarks are seen as racially offensive.

On 3rd May, the actor took to X and made a statement explaining that there was no intent to offend or target any particular community particularly Scheduled Tribes who he has a lot of respect for and holds in high esteem as part of the country.

 

If there was something in my message that was misinterpreted or offensive, I apologised for it. My sole intention was to talk about peace, advancement and harmony. I am still committed to using my voice to uplift unite-never divide," the star wrote in the message.

The police are probing the case.
