In a shocking case of fraud in Chhattisgarh, a man allegedly opened a bank account in the name of actor Sunny Leone and has been collecting Rs 1,000 every month from the Mahtari Vandan Yojana, a government scheme for married women.
The Mahtari Vandan Yojana, run by the BJP government, provides Rs 1,000 every month to married women in Chhattisgarh. It was recently discovered that one of the accounts receiving this money was registered under Sunny Leone's name.
Virendra Joshi, the man who allegedly opened and managed this account, is now under investigation. A case has been filed against him, and officials responsible for verifying eligible beneficiaries are also being identified.
The fraud was uncovered in Talur village in Chhattisgarh's Bastar district. District collector Haris S has directed the Women and Child Development Department to conduct a thorough investigation and seize the bank account for recovery of the funds. The case came to light after media reports raised the issue.
This revelation has sparked a political debate between the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress. State Congress chief Deepak Baij has claimed that over 50 per cent of the beneficiaries of the Mahtari Vandan Yojana are fake.
In response, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao criticised the Congress, saying they are upset because the state’s women are now receiving the support that Congress failed to provide during its tenure.
