The United States has launched its 12th consecutive round of strikes on Iran, with multiple explosions reported in the cities of Bushehr, Ahvaz and Sirik. The attacks come in continuation of US action against Tehran, nearly two weeks after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted a Cyprus-flagged vessel in the Strait of Hormuz near Oman.
US forces also carried out a missile attack on the Shalamcheh border crossing, which killed two people and wounded 11 others, according to the deputy governor of Khuzestan province.
Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, said Tehran’s defence doctrine was clear: “an eye for an eye.” His comments came after US President Donald Trump warned that American forces would target civilian infrastructure every time Iranian forces hit a ship in the critical waterway.
Meanwhile, Yemen’s Ansarallah, popularly known as the Houthis, said the group had carried out drone and missile strikes on two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea after declaring a maritime blockade on the Kingdom.
Saudi sources confirmed on Thursday that the state-owned vessel Encelia was targeted while sailing in the Red Sea. An official source at the General Transport Authority said the attack caused a fire at the bow of the ship.
The source added that all crew members were safe and that authorities had taken the necessary measures to secure the vessel and crew and protect the marine environment.
The US and Saudi Arabia have reached a landmark nuclear cooperation agreement that could allow Riyadh to develop civilian uranium enrichment capabilities.
