In a shocking crime in Canada, a 20-year-old Indian student, Harshdeep Singh, was shot dead in Edmonton on Friday. Singh, who worked as a security guard, was killed after a violent encounter inside an apartment building around 12:30 a.m.
According to Canadian police, two suspects, identified as Evan Rain and Judith Saulteaux, have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder. A weapon was recovered during the arrest.
CCTV footage of the incident shows a member of a three-person gang assaulting Singh, throwing him down a flight of stairs, and shooting him from behind.
Police stated they received reports of gunfire in the 107th Avenue area and responded promptly. Singh was found unresponsive in a stairwell. Emergency services rushed him to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The Edmonton Police Service released a statement saying:
"On Friday, December 6, at approximately 12:30 a.m., patrol officers responded to a report of gunfire inside an apartment building near 106 Street and 107 Avenue. Officers found 20-year-old security guard Harshdeep Singh unresponsive in a stairwell and immediately administered first aid. He was transported to the hospital, where he was declared deceased."
This incident has sparked concern within the Indian community in Canada and raised questions about safety in the region.
