As many as 210 people have been killed in the ongoing trilateral conflict involving Israel, Iran, and the United States, which erupted on Saturday following the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint US-Israeli military operation.
The Israeli Air Force reported dropping more than 1,200 bombs across 24 provinces of Iran over the past two days, targeting what it described as military infrastructure.
In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have launched attacks on 27 bases in the Middle East hosting US troops, with retaliatory strikes also directed at military sites in Israel.
While both sides insist their operations have focused on military targets, reports on the ground paint a starkly different picture, with significant civilian casualties and damage to non-military infrastructure.
On Saturday, US and Israeli forces stated they targeted military sites in Tehran, but subsequent reports confirmed strikes hit an elementary school in southern Iran (near Minab), killing 148 girl students along with parents and staff—contributing to a total of at least 201 killed in Iran, the vast majority civilians—according to Iranian Red Crescent and state media figures.
More than 747 have been injured in Iran in the past 48 hours alone, with some estimates from human rights monitors like HRANA placing civilian deaths at 133+ and total casualties higher as verification continues.
In Israel, reports indicate at least 9–12 killed (with 11 missing in some accounts) and more than 150–200 injured, primarily civilians in northern Israel and Tel Aviv areas, from Iranian missile and drone retaliatory strikes.
Civilian casualties have also been reported across 10 countries due to the widening conflict, including Iranian strikes on US-linked sites in the Gulf. Breakdown from various regional reports:
Bahrain – killed: 0–1, injured: 4; Iraq – killed: 2, injured: 5; Kuwait – killed: 1–3, injured: 32 (including US troops); Oman – killed: 0, injured: 5; Qatar – killed: 0, injured: 16; United Arab Emirates – killed: 3, injured: 58.
Additional incidents were reported in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and others, though exact figures vary.
Both sides have reported massive infrastructure damage: Iran has cited widespread harm to civilian facilities (including hospitals like Gandhi Hospital in Tehran and schools), while Israel stated at least 40 buildings suffered extensive damage from Iranian attacks.
On Sunday evening, US Central Command (CENTCOM) and President Donald Trump confirmed that three US service members were killed and five seriously injured in Iranian strikes on a base (likely in Kuwait), with several others sustaining minor shrapnel injuries and concussions.
CENTCOM stated, "Several others sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions and are in the process of being returned to duty. Major combat operations continue and our response effort is ongoing.”
