At least eight men of Indian origin have been arrested in San Joaquin County, California, in connection with a gang-related kidnapping and torture case, authorities confirmed on Friday.
The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Dilpreet Singh, Arshpreet Singh, Amritpal Singh, Vishal (last name not yet confirmed), Pavittar Singh, Gurtaj Singh, Manpreet Randhawa, and Sarabjit Singh. All eight have been booked under multiple charges, including kidnapping, torture, criminal conspiracy, assault, gang enhancement, and offences related to the possession and manufacturing of illegal weapons.
The arrests were made following a coordinated operation involving several law enforcement agencies. As part of the investigation, officials executed five search warrants across San Joaquin County. The joint operation included personnel from the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office AGNET, the Stockton Police Department SWAT team, the Manteca Police Department SWAT team, the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office SWAT team, and the FBI SWAT team.
Five handguns (including a fully automatic Glock), one assault rifle, several high-capacity magazines, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, and roughly $15,000 in cash were among the numerous firearms and ammunition found by the authorities during the raids.
The arrests, according to officials, are a part of the FBI's "Summer Heat" initiative, a calculated move to target violent criminals and gang members who are a threat to their communities. Officials are expected to provide more information as the case progresses, and additional investigations are still underway.
