The Biden administration is committed to deepening its partnership with India and ensuring a more prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific region, the White House has stated.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre highlighted this during her Monday press briefing when asked about President Joe Biden’s priorities in the final six months of his administration.
“We look forward to continuing to expand our critical and critically important partnership and how it's going to benefit the American people,” Jean-Pierre said. “We want to create a more prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific and the world. That is going to continue to be our focus as we move forward.”
President Biden considers the US-India relationship as one of the most significant global partnerships, Jean-Pierre added. “We work closely with India on our most vital priorities, including through the Quad and the US-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology,” she said.
Earlier on Monday, India’s Ambassador-designate to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, arrived in Washington. Kwatra, who previously served as Minister of Commerce at the Indian Embassy, is expected to present his credentials to President Biden soon.
Kwatra, a well-known figure in US diplomatic circles, arrives amidst an intense presidential election campaign, developments in Bangladesh, and ongoing conflicts involving the US.
In the coming 90 days, India and the US are anticipated to engage in several high-level diplomatic meetings, including visits by cabinet-level officials from both nations.
The bilateral ties between India and the US have strengthened significantly, particularly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Washington in June last year, followed by President Biden’s visit to India for the G20 summit last September.
