Dubai’s Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Thursday formally opened the international campus of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) in the UAE, marking a significant milestone in India’s higher education outreach abroad.
The Ministry of Education said the launch represents a deepening of educational partnerships and India’s growing presence in the global academic space.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, on a two-day visit to the UAE, hailed the initiative as a bold step forward. “IIM Ahmedabad Dubai campus will take the best of India to the world. Dubai, today, has provided the perfect launchpad to the ethos of ‘Indian in spirit, global in outlook’ by hosting the IIM Ahmedabad international campus,” he wrote on X.
Pradhan also met Abdulrahman Abdulmannan Al Awar, Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the UAE. According to the Education Ministry, the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation. “Both leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation in higher education and agreed to further deepen knowledge bridges, making knowledge, innovation, and research central pillars of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” the ministry said.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to people-to-people ties and mutual priorities, stressing India’s role as a global talent hub and the UAE’s standing as a global economic centre.
On Wednesday, the education minister visited the Abu Dhabi campus of IIT Delhi and inaugurated the Atal Incubation Centre (AIC) hosted on the premises, described as the first of its kind for an Indian institution abroad.
The UAE visit, the Ministry said, is directed at building collaborative platforms to foster academic excellence, innovation, and pathways for young people in both nations.
