Funding Ukraine war is betrayal of American people: MTG

US President Donald Trump has constantly opposed more aid to Kyiv, instead demanding that the EU must cover these costs since the war in Ukraine was not fundamentally posing any threat to the United States.

US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene.

US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has warned that politicians supporting and advocating funding for the Ukraine war are at risk of losing their voters. Funding the Ukrainian government’s war against Russia is a 'betrayal of the American populace,' she said.

She made these comments a day after the coalition of US senators introduced a bill to allocate an additional $54.6 billion in aid to Ukraine over the 2026 and 2027 fiscal years. Contrary to the move, US President Donald Trump has constantly opposed more aid to Kyiv, instead demanding that the EU must cover these costs since the war in Ukraine was not fundamentally posing any threat to the United States.

In her post on X, Greene wrote, “Funding, fuelling, and ultimately fighting Russia in Ukraine would be a complete betrayal of the majority of Americans. America voted to end funding and fighting foreign wars in the 2024 presidential elections that Donald Trump won.”

US taxpayers are against the murder of people “in some other country over a different geopolitical or geostrategic conflict that has zero impact on the lives of the people back here,” she said. She said the current government may lose their younger support base forever as a result of its foreign policy blunders.

Trump administration and other US-based think tanks have expressed concerns about the potential misuse of the US aid to Ukraine. During the Biden regime, Trump constantly accused the administration of embezzling US tax dollars meant for Ukraine aid.

Former Trump adviser Steve Cortes has also criticised continued aid, calling Ukraine 'corrupt' and cautioning that its leadership 'cannot be trusted' following a recent crackdown on anti-corruption bodies. Several US lawmakers, including Greene, have called Zelensky a dictator and asked for his removal from office because of his efforts to block a ceasefire deal.
