United States President Donald Trump confirmed on Sunday that his Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, will be heading to Moscow 'next week,' days before his 10-day ultimatum to end the war in Ukraine expires.
During his media interaction, Trump said the visit would quite likely take place on Wednesday or Thursday, after he failed to travel on the weekend. While he did not provide any specifics about the scheduled visit, he did, however, confirm that Witkoff’s mission was focused on bringing about a ceasefire.
When asked about what message Witkoff would deliver to the Russian leadership, he said, “Yeah, get a deal where people stop getting killed.” They are pretty good at avoiding sanctions. You know they are wily characters, and they’re pretty good at avoiding sanctions,” he added.

Trump claimed that Moscow 'asked' for Witkoff’s visit; however, the Kremlin has yet to respond to the claims. The US president made these remarks as he was reportedly getting frustrated over the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The very issue he had promised to solve within 24 hours after taking office.
The White House has not made public whether Witkoff will be meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin directly. The two men have previously held multiple meetings in Moscow, though the progress on certain issues concerning the war and territorial gains has remained a distant dream. Russia, despite having the upper hand in Ukraine, has expressed willingness to engage in talks but maintains that any peace agreement must reflect 'new territorial realities.'
