The death toll in Gaza has crossed 65,000, with more than 165,000 others injured and tens of thousands more buried under the rubble since October 2023, said the Gaza Health Ministry, which the UN considers credible.

The ministry on Thursday morning updated its death toll as more than 100 people were killed in the past 24 hours across the occupied enclave. Though it said these figures were incomplete, as many victims were still believed to be trapped under the rubble on roads that rescue teams could not find.

After a brief ceasefire that ended on March 18, as many as 12,511 more people have been killed in the ongoing Israeli military operations, and 53,656 have been wounded, the ministry said.

The statement from the health ministry said that Israeli forces continued targeting aid seekers, as they killed seven and injured 87 Palestinians near the aid sites over the past 24 hours. According to several rights organisations and the United Nations, a total of more than 2,504 aid seekers have been killed, with over 18,381 injured since May 27.

While the ministry confirmed that four people have also died due to starvation in the past, raising the toll to 432, including 146 children. The famine has killed 154 people, including 31 children, in the past month.

Meanwhile, a recent investigation report on a classified Israeli military database showed that more than 80 per cent of the victims in Gaza are civilians. The Israeli forces have remained in control of all the land, sea and air exits in Gaza since March 2, restricting aid trucks from entering despite hundreds waiting at the border.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
