Harvard may lose ability to enrol foreign students: Trump

Harvard University faces potential loss of the ability to enrol foreign students if it fails to comply with the Trump administration’s demand for records on foreign student visa holders’ activities. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem threatened to revoke the privilege unless the university complies by April 30.

Harvard University faces the potential loss of its privilege to enrol foreign students if it fails to comply with the Trump administration’s demands to provide information on certain visa holders, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has warned.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem stated on Wednesday that she had sent a letter to the university, demanding it submit records regarding the “illegal and violent activities” of foreign student visa holders by April 30.

“If Harvard cannot verify it is in full compliance with its reporting requirements, the university will lose the privilege of enrolling foreign students,” Noem said.

In addition, Noem confirmed the termination of two DHS grants totalling more than $2.7 million to Harvard. The university has been at odds with the Trump administration, which has imposed punitive measures on several major US colleges, including cutting federal funding, over their handling of pro-Palestine campus protests.

“Harvard bending the knee to antisemitism — driven by its spineless leadership — fuels a cesspool of extremist riots and threatens our national security,” Secretary Noem said. “With anti-American, pro-Hamas ideology poisoning its campus and classrooms, Harvard’s position as a top institution of higher learning is a distant memory. America demands more from universities entrusted with taxpayer dollars.”

The $800,303 Implementation Science for Targeted Violence Prevention grant, which branded conservatives as far-right dissidents in a skewed study, and the $1,934,902 Blue Campaign Program Evaluation and Violence Advisement grant, which funded Harvard’s public health propaganda, have been criticised as undermining American values and security.

This action follows President Donald Trump’s decision to freeze $2.2 billion in federal funding to Harvard University and propose the revocation of its tax-exempt status over its radical ideology. With a $53.2 billion endowment, Harvard is said to be able to fund its own agenda.

“DHS won’t,” Noem added. “If Harvard cannot verify it is in full compliance with its reporting requirements, the university will lose the privilege of enrolling foreign students.”
