India on Monday advised its citizens in Israel and Iran to remain cautious, stay alert and avoid all non-essential travel amid the worsening security situation in the region after the latest exchange of attacks between the two countries.

The advisory came after Iran launched dozens of missiles towards Israel on Sunday evening in response to Israeli strikes in Beirut's southern suburbs. Following the Iranian attack, Israel carried out fresh strikes in central and western Iran.

In a post on X, the Embassy of India in Iran reiterated its earlier advisory and urged Indian nationals not to travel to Iran under the current circumstances. The embassy also advised Indians currently staying in Iran to leave the country through available transport options as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv urged Indian citizens in Israel to strictly follow safety instructions issued by Israeli authorities and the Home Front Command.

"In view of the prevailing security situation in the region, all Indian nationals in Israel are advised to exercise utmost caution and remain vigilant at all times," the embassy said.

The mission also asked Indian citizens to stay close to designated shelters and familiarise themselves with the nearest protected locations around their homes and workplaces.

Indians in Israel have further been advised to avoid all non-essential travel within the country until further notice and to regularly follow local news, official advisories and emergency alerts.

The Indian community in Israel has grown to more than 40,000 over the past two-and-a-half years and is spread across different parts of the country.

According to official figures, around 9,000 Indians, including students, were in Iran when the conflict began on February 28. More than 1,800 of them have returned to India so far.

The Indian Embassy in Israel has also shared a 24x7 helpline: Telephone: +972-54-7520711; +972-54-2428378; E-mail: cons1.telaviv@mea.gov.in, for citizens in Israel to contact in case of an emergency.

"The Embassy remains in close touch with the relevant authorities and will continue to provide updates as required," the mission said.
