Pezeshkian says Iran will never build a nuclear bomb.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that his country is not seeking to develop nuclear weapons in response to the possible reimposition of Snapback sanctions by the E3 nations.

The UK, France and Germany, known as the E3, rejected sanctions relief on Iran and warned Tehran of the return of sanctions if it refuses to resume nuclear negotiations with the US and the IAEA.

Pezeshkian categorically stated that his country has no intention of building a nuclear bomb, despite a concerning statement from Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that Iran’s nuclear tests could happen at any time.

However, Pezeshkian’s consistent denial, alongside Khamenei’s warning, has cast a shadow of doubt in the international community.

Pezeshkian said on Tuesday, “I hereby declare once more before this assembly that Iran has never sought and will never seek to build a nuclear bomb. We do not seek to build a nuclear bomb. We do not seek nuclear weapons.”

His remarks come in the wake of Israel’s bombing of Iranian nuclear and military facilities, targeting top generals and nuclear scientists in June, which triggered what later became known as the 12-day war.

Meanwhile, on 22 June, the US also joined the attacks after the Trump administration carried out targeted bombings of three major nuclear research facilities in the country.

Pezeshkian described the Israeli and US attacks as a “grievous blow upon international trust and the very prospect of peace in the region.”

Trump has repeatedly stated that Iran must not obtain nuclear weapons. However, the Iranian ambassador to the UN said that nuclear enrichment is a matter of dignity and self-respect for Iran.

Pezeshkian is meeting with European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, in a last-minute bid to avert the sanctions.
