Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison has overtaken Elon Musk to become the world’s richest individual for the first time in his career, following a record-breaking surge in Oracle Corp.’s shares.
Ellison’s fortune soared by an unprecedented $101 billion in a single day after the software giant reported blowout quarterly results that triggered a historic rise in its stock. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, his wealth reached $393 billion as of 10:10 a.m. in New York on Wednesday, eclipsing Musk’s
$385 billion. The one-day gain marked the largest increase ever recorded by the index.
At 81, Ellison continues to serve as Oracle’s chairman and chief technology officer, with the majority of his fortune tied to the company he co-founded in 1977.

Oracle’s stock, already up 45 percent this year, surged another 41 percent on Wednesday—its steepest single-session gain ever—after the company posted a sharp increase in bookings and delivered an upbeat forecast for its cloud infrastructure business.
The development ended Musk’s nearly year-long stint at the top of the global wealth rankings. The Tesla and SpaceX chief first seized the title in 2021, briefly lost it to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault, and reclaimed it last year.
But Tesla’s shares have dropped 13 percent in 2025, cutting into Musk’s wealth even as the company’s board advances a massive pay package. If the targets outlined in that package are met, analysts say Musk could still become the world’s first trillionaire.
