The Venezuelan opposition leader Mario Corina Machado, recipient of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, said on Sunday that the US military build-up near Venezuela’s coast could bring regime change in the country.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate 2025, said she would welcome US strikes on her country if they help remove President Nicolas Maduro from power.

Washington has long accused Maduro of heading, sheltering and harbouring a drug cartel in the country. The Trump administration has called him a Narco-terrorist.

Earlier this year, US President Donald Trump deployed a small naval fleet to the Western Caribbean, which carried out multiple strikes on the vessels allegedly linked to a Drug cartel network.

While Trump denied planning direct strikes inside Venezuela, reports from several White House sources said Trump reviewed the potential targets.

The latest call from the Nobel Laureate has stirred fresh political controversy in Caracas, with Maduro supporters and loyalists calling for action against her for her anti-national stance.

According to official sources, Venezuela has sought military assistance from China, Russia, and Iran in case the US initiates a military operation inside Caracas.

Defending her stance, Machado said, “This is not regime change; this is enforcing the will of the Venezuelan people.” She is accused of funnelling US funds to fascist forces inside Venezuela who are hell-bent on seeking regime change in the country.

According to Caracas officials, Machado has had close contacts with the US government for decades. In 2005, then-President George W. Bush received her at the Oval Office.

If the accusations against her are proven, she could face life imprisonment or, worse, the death penalty for treachery and treason against her own country.
