Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday accused India of backing Taliban attacks on Pakistani forces during the recent border clashes.
The allegations stem from the Afghanistan foreign minister Muttaqi’s visit to India that coincided with border clashes. Pakistan has long wanted Afghanistan to suspend ties with India. However, Muttaqi’s recent visit to the country has surely created some concerns in the security establishments across Pakistan.
While the Taliban said the raids were a response to Pakistani strikes inside Kabul, Islamabad has accused New Delhi of the same. Sharif, in an angry, pitched tone, said, “Our patience with ignorant Afghans has run out,” adding, Pakistan will take decisive action against the terror groups operating from Afghan soil.”
He said Pakistan on Wednesday agreed to a temporary ceasefire of 48 hours at a request made by the Afghan government. He alleged there was no terrorism in 2018; however, since the Afghan Taliban took over, the country has become a hub of terrorism.

While there are no clear markers signalling India’s involvement in what Sharif believed was orchestrated from New Delhi, India has strongly rejected the baseless allegations, saying whatever the country was suffering from is the result of its own policies.
India has sought to increase its low-level mission to full embassy-level relations with Kabul. India has built several projects in Afghanistan costing billions of dollars. The recent visit by Muttaqi was also aimed at reviving and boosting relations with Afghanistan through trade, cooperation and development projects.
