The Palestinian resistance group Hamas announced on Wednesday that its representatives have reiterated their willingness to accept and implement an immediate ceasefire deal with Israel to halt operations in Gaza.

This agreement would be based on previous U.S. recommendations, without any new conditions from the parties involved in the conflict.

In a statement issued in Gaza, Hamas leadership and its negotiation team, led by senior official Khalil Al-Hayya, engaged in talks with peace negotiators on Wednesday.

These discussions included Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdul Rahman Al-Thani and Egypt’s intelligence chief Abbas Kamel in Doha, Qatar’s capital, focusing on the latest developments in Gaza.

Despite several rounds of negotiations, no progress has been made to end the nearly year-long conflict. The deadlock in peace talks persists due to Israel’s demand to control the Philadelphi corridor, a narrow strip of land connecting Gaza with Egypt.

However, both Egypt and Qatar have urged Israel to drop this demand, arguing that the corridor is a critical route used by international aid agencies to supply assistance to those in need and to people displaced by the ongoing Israeli invasion.

Meanwhile, CIA Director William Burns, one of the chief negotiators on Gaza, stated on Saturday that a more detailed and comprehensive ceasefire proposal is in the works and will be made public in the coming days.

The current proposal, initiated by U.S. President Joe Biden in June, outlined a phased peace deal in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack.

Furthermore, the death toll from the ongoing conflict in Gaza has now exceeded 41,000, marking it as one of the deadliest confrontations between the two adversaries.
