United States President Donald Trump has described the recent meeting between the Russian President Vladimir Putin and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff as 'very good'.
He said the direct talks between the Russian leader and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky could potentially take place 'very soon'. During his media interaction at the Oval Office on Wednesday, following negotiations between US special envoy Witkoff and Putin's talks in Russia.
When asked to comment on the two leaders' upcoming meeting, Trump replied, “There is a very good prospect that they will, and we haven’t determined where, but we had some excellent talks with President Putin today.” He said, “There is a likely possibility that two leaders could be meeting very soon.” While he remained positive about the talks, the US president did not want to speculate about the peace deal and said, “I don’t want to say; I’ve been disappointed before.”

Earlier on Wednesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also praised the recent talks for giving Washington a “better understanding” of the terms under which Russia would likely agree to a peace deal. If both parties in the war could be brought closer, a trilateral summit could potentially follow, he said.
Rubio said, “I think there’s the chance for the president to have a gathering that includes both Putin and Zelensky to try to end the war in Ukraine.” Meanwhile, several reports suggested that US President Donald Trump is planning to meet Putin in a personal capacity early next week. Moscow has praised Wednesday’s talks as “a very useful and constructive conversation.”
