United States President Donald Trump designated the left-wing ANTIFA movement a terrorist organisation here on Thursday.
The decision was made a week after the assassination of conservative right-wing political activist and public speaker Charlie Kirk. Senior Republican officials and politicians, including Vice President JD Vance, attributed the murder to “left-wing extremism”.
Trump, after signing the executive order, posted on his Truth Social that, “I am pleased to inform our many US patriots that I am designating ANTIFA, a sick, dangerous, radical left disaster, as a major terrorist organisation.”
He said those funding this evil ANTIFA movement should be “comprehensively investigated in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices.” ANTIFA, an acronym for “antifascists”, is an umbrella term used to define the black-clad, left-wing activists who are often found aggressively disrupting conservative demonstrations and clashing with the pro-right protesters as well as the police.

Kirk's death has created a storm in US politics, where one side, the left wing, blames the conservative side, and on the other side, the conservative Republicans blame the Democrats.
However, the alternative voices in the American mainstream media, including podcasters, believe there is much more to it than just the US politics' irrational blame game. This particular movement gained nationwide attention during the 2020 George Floyd unrest in the US.
Members of ANTIFA have also been blamed for participating in riots and carrying out ambush attacks on conservative figures and journalists. Meanwhile, the 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, the man charged with Kirk’s murder, reportedly has left-leaning and pro-LGBTQ views.
“I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out,” Robinson allegedly wrote shortly after he shot Kirk dead.
