The head of the UN Security Council’s Daesh and Al-Qaeda sanctions committee has said that they have found evidence that Afghan territory is being used to stage terrorist attacks in Pakistan.

Denmark’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Sandra Jensen Landi—in the capacity of the committee’s chair—presented a report to the UNSC, saying that the terrorist group has conducted numerous terror strikes inside Pakistan, allegedly launched from Afghan soil.

According to the estimates, the TTP, an offshoot of the Afghan Taliban and ideological partner, has more than 6,000 fighters, receiving both logistical and substantial support from the “de facto” authorities. She made the statement as the 15-member council was briefed by the head of three of its subsidiary bodies, which related to Daesh, Al-Qaeda, UN counter-terrorism efforts and measures to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction to non-state actors.

Islamabad and Kabul are experiencing heightened tensions in the aftermath of the October border clashes, following Pakistani airstrikes on a terror camp inside Afghanistan. Commenting on the report, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Usman Jadoon, said the country has rendered invaluable sacrifices in its efforts to eradicate this menace, with over 80,000 casualties and billions of dollars in economic losses.

He said Al-Qaeda was decimated largely due to Pakistan’s efforts. Pakistan has lost 80,000 men and women in the war on terror since 2001 and continues to witness the blowback from the organisations which were once staunch allies of the country.

The terror organisations like ISIL-K, TTP and its affiliates, and BLA (Balochistan Liberation Army) and its Majeed Brigade are thriving under the patronage of their hosts (Afghanistan).
