Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi has said the United States must agree to pay financial compensation before the talks on the nuclear programme can be resumed.

Araghchi on Thursday hinted at possible resumption of nuclear talks with the US on the condition that the United States pay Iran the compensation against the damages it caused in three nuclear facilities last month.

Both nations began discussing the enrichment and overall prospects of the nuclear deal in April this year, but the five rounds of back-to-back negotiations ended in deadlock after the Iranian delegation refused to give up the enrichment of uranium.

Days before the sixth round of negotiations was scheduled to take place, Israel launched preventive strikes on Iran, killing dozens of nuclear scientists and top generals in a bid to stop Iran from what they believed was an attempt at a nuclear bomb.

Israel’s strikes were then followed by the United States dropping bunker buster GBU 57 bombs on Fordow and Tomahawk cruise missiles on Natanz and Isfahan on June 22.

Araghchi said, "Anti-negotiation feelings are very high. People are telling me, 'Don't waste your time anymore, and don't be cheated by them.”

He said, US attacks on Iran had deepened the distrust of President Donald Trump, who recently vowed to attack again if Iran goes back to their previous programme.

The US has been demanding that Iran abandon its uranium enrichment programme. Observers say Iran's new conditions could create more obstacles for restarting the talks.
