Utah Governor Spencer Cox has promised capital punishment to the killer of conservative and staunch Israeli supporter Charlie Kirk on Friday.
Despite the massive ongoing searches, the suspect remains at large, 30 hours after the shooting. Utah Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason admitted that they were unsure whether the gunmen were still hiding in the state or had crossed into other states. “We have no idea.”
At the press conference on Thursday evening, Cox said that the officials will “pursue the death penalty” once the suspected shooter is apprehended. Cox added, “We’ve been working with our attorneys, getting everything that we need, affidavits ready, so that we can pursue the death penalty in this case. And that will happen here in the state of Utah.”
The governor promised strict action and warned that “I hope this will be loud and clear to whoever did this; we will find you. We will try you. And we will hold you accountable to the furthest extent of the law.” He said, “Utah is among the states where the death penalty is still in place for such horrifying crimes.”

Meanwhile, the FBI has offered a reward of $100,000 for the information leading to the identification and arrest of the killer. Fed Director Kash Patel travelled to Utah on Thursday and was seen at the scene of the shooting, near the canopy tent where Kirk was gunned down during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University.
Kirk was hosting a university event at Utah on Wednesday. He was taken with a single shot to the head in broad daylight. The US authorities have described the killing as a targeted political assassination. President Donald Trump has vowed to pursue not only Kirk’s killer but also what he called the “radical left” networks that fuel political violence.
