A total of 10.22 per cent voter turnout was recorded up to 9: a.m. across all 26 assembly constituencies spreading across six districts of Jammu and Kashmir,” said the office of the CEO of J&K UT.
The constituencies where voting is taking place are spread across both sides of the Pir Panjal region, three each in the Valley and the Jammu division.
The constituencies in Srinagar district central Shalteng, where Tariq Hamid Karra of Congress is contesting, Hazratbal, Lal Chowk, Khanyar, Habba Kadal, Zadibal, and Chanapora, where the fight between Apni party chief, NC and PDP candidates will be a contest to watch out for.
Similarly, segments of the Budgam district up for polls are Budgam's main, where Omar Abdullah is fighting against the PDP candidate Aga Muntazir. This will be a major battle in this district. However, pollsters predict victory for Omar Abdullah, given NC’s historical dominance over the seat.
Other segments up for polls in this district are Beerwah, Khansahib, Chrar-I-Sharief, and Chadoora, while there are two constituencies in Ganderbal district—Kangan (ST) and Ganderbal.
The seats going to polls in Jammu division are Gulabgarh (ST), Reasi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (in Reasi district), Kalakote-Sunderbani, Nowshera, where BJP State Chief Ravinder Raina is in a close contest, Rajouri (ST) (in Rajouri district), Budhal (ST), Thannamandi (ST), Surankote (ST), Poonch Haveli and Mendhar (ST) (Poonch district).
In this phase, the fate of 239 candidates, including the ex-chief minister Omar Abdullah, who is contesting the twin seats of Budgam and Ganderbal, will be decided and sealed in the ballot boxes.
The ECI has set up 3,502 polling stations in these segments, including 1,056 urban and 2,446 rural stations, the officials said.
Tight security arrangements have been made to ensure safe, smooth, and hassle-free elections.
The voting for this phase will end at 6:00 pm.
