Polling in the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections has surpassed 50%, with brisk voting reported across several constituencies. According to the latest figures, the voter turnout stood at 50.65% as of 3 PM.
In Pulwama district, Pampore witnessed a turnout of 35.70%, Tral recorded 32.87%, Pulwama 40.20%, and Rajpora saw 38.63%. Zainapora registered 45.40%, while Shopian recorded a strong turnout of 48.40%.
D.H. Pora topped the charts with 55.14%, followed by Kulgam at 50.75%, and Devsar at 46.34%. Dooru reported a turnout of 50.50%, and Kokernag (ST) recorded 50.00%.
Reports suggest that CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami is facing a tough battle in his constituency, with a Jamaat-backed candidate reportedly giving him stiff competition. The contest in this constituency has drawn the attention of political observers, with high voter engagement being reported.
Anantnag West registered 39.51%, while Anantnag itself saw a lower turnout of 34.71%. In Bijbehara (Srigufwara), voter turnout was at 48.30%, while Shangus-Anantnag East recorded 45.34%. Pahalgam, however, reported a high turnout of 58.89%.
In the Jammu division, Inderwal led with an impressive 72.20%, followed by Kishtwar at 67.58% and Padder-Nagseni at 71.08%.
Bhaderwah recorded a turnout of 58.32%, Doda at 62.13%, and Doda West at 66.75%. In Ramban, the turnout was 61.38%, while Banihal registered 59.00%.
The polling process continues smoothly as voting proceeds across constituencies.
