As the third and final phase of the J&K assembly polls approaches, GA Mir Congress candidate from Dooru, Anantnag, said on Saturday that the Bharatiya Janata Party is less likely to achieve 10-12 seats in Jammu.
Mir expressed his confidence in the strength of the NC-Congress alliance and said that this coalition is the only viable option left with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“BJP will not even get a chance to be a part of the government; leave aside forming the government on their own. BJP will be reduced to less than 12 seats in J&K. There is no other party in Jammu and Kashmir apart from the alliance of JKNC and Congress that can win 30-35 seats. So there is no other party in the UT with which the BJP can ally to secure that many seats. The public of J&K has always taken a decisive decision, and in the last phase also, the public will teach them a lesson,” Mir told the media.
Before his statement, NC vice president and candidate for Budgam and Ganderbal, Omar Abdullah, expressed confidence in the victory of the JKNC-Congress alliance in the assembly elections.
He said, “They (the BJP) are not contesting that many seats to get a majority on themselves. They have left a maximum number of seats in Kashmir, and they won’t be able to win many seats in Jammu. But if they are indicating that they have B, C, D, and E teams here and through them, they can fool people again; it’s a mistake as people here are more aware now. The results, in my knowledge, after two phases of assembly elections are in favour of the NC-Congress alliance and that the alliance will form the next government.”
During his address at a north Kashmir rally, Omar said, “The Prime Minister has repeatedly said that statehood will be restored in J&K, although no one from the BJP camp has been able to justify the move of downgrading a state to UT and the benefits that we got because of it”. In Addition, we will wait to get our statehood back after the elections... If there is any delay, we will go to the Supreme Court and we have full faith in the court. We will get our statehood.”
The elections in J&K are taking place after a decade; it’s the first time that J&K is witnessing elections without Article 370 and statehood.
The vote counting and results will be announced on October 8 alongside Haryana assembly polls.
