BJP National Spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam expressed confidence on Monday that his party would form the government in both Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana, despite exit polls suggesting the BJP may fall short of a majority in both regions.
Speaking tahead of Tuesday's results for the Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana Assembly elections, Zafar Islam dismissed the exit poll projections, stating, "In both Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana, history will be made."
He added, "In J&K, a BJP leader from the Jammu region will become the Chief Minister. As for Haryana, while I won’t comment on exit polls, based on our feedback, the BJP is likely to secure around 52 seats."
Regarding comments by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, who criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as "immature" and backed by "outside forces," Zafar Islam echoed the sentiment, accusing Gandhi of engaging with anti-national elements.
"Whenever Rahul Gandhi goes abroad, he attends events organised by those who aim to damage India’s diversity and unity," Islam said.
He further remarked on the Congress party's performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, in which it won 99 seats, suggesting Gandhi had shown no improvement since then. "The people of this country are watching everything," he added.
Voting for 90 Assembly seats in Jammu & Kashmir took place in three phases—on September 18, 25, and October 1—while voting for 90 seats in Haryana was held on October 5. The results for both regions will be announced on October 8.
