Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) chief and the North Kashmir Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid has advised political parties and independents winning the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections not to form the state government until the Union government restores statehood.

He said his party will offer full support to all parties uniting for the cause.

“I have a humble suggestion to all political parties and independent candidates who will win elections tomorrow to put government formation on hold till the Centre restores statehood to J&K,” the MP said. “If all (of them) agree to my suggestion, AIP will also extend full support to this proposal.”

He also said that the historical “Darbar move” should be resumed, keeping in view the broader status of the people living on both sides of the Pir Panjal region.

“The administration claims that it has saved the J&K exchequer from a huge burden by abolishing the Darbar Move practice, but the fact remains that people of both regions are suffering. We demand this practice be resumed,” he said.

While answering a query about the BJP winning majority in Jammu and Kashmir, he said, “My priority wasn’t about forming the government but rather safeguarding the interests of J&K.

On five nominated members by the J&K Administration, he said. “By nominating members of its own, the J&K administration is damaging and challenging the very idea of BJP and PM Narendra Modi: Ek Vidhan, Ek Nishan, and Ek Pradhan.

Rashid lashed out at the decision of the administration nominating five members for the J&K assembly when poll results are yet to be out.
