A total voter turnout of 44.08 per cent was recorded by 1 pm on October 1 in the third phase of the Assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) the chief electoral officer said on Tuesday.
The highest voter turnout was recorded in the Chhamb constituency at 53.21 per cent, closely followed by the Gurez (ST) constituency at 52.45 per cent.
Sopore had the lowest turnout of 27.76 per cent.
Turnouts in the other constituencies in North Kashmir included Karnah at 45.35 per cent, Trehgam at 41.28 per cent, Kupwara at 37.52 per cent, and Lolab at 41.27 per cent.
Handwara recorded 47.1 per cent, Langate 41.11 per cent, and Baramulla 31.18 per cent.
In Jammu, the constituencies of Udhampur West and Udhampur East had 50.38 per cent and 51.64 per cent turnout, respectively.
Others included Chenani with 52.24 per cent, Ramnagar (SC) with 52.54 per cent, and Billawar with 51.54 per cent.
Kathua (SC) recorded 48.41 per cent, Nagrota 49.07 per cent, and Chhamb with 53.21 per cent.
Prominent candidates in this phase are Sajad Gani Lone, the Peoples Conference chief, who is contesting from North Kashmir, with Tara Chand and Muzzafar Beigh, both former deputy chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir.
Around 39.18 lakh electors are eligible to exercise their right to vote in this phase, which consists of 40 seats spread across seven districts of J&K.
This is the last phase of the three phases of J&K elections being held after a decade and for the first time since Article 370 was revoked from the erstwhile state.
Vote counting and results are scheduled for October 8.
