In the ongoing first phase of the polling in J&K happening after a gap of ten years, a total of 11.11 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the first two hours of the voting.


As per reports, the voters thronged the polling stations in the early morning before 7 am.

 

Long queues were seen of people waiting for their turn to exercise their right to vote after a decade-long wait.

 

As per the latest updates, the highest percentage was recorded in the Inderwal at 16.1%, with the lowest percentage recorded in the Anantnag district at 6 per cent.

 

While Pampore, which is one of the hot contest seats, recorded 8.81 per cent, Tral had 7.33 per cent. Pulwama recorded 10.5 per cent, Zainapora 10 per cent, Shopian 13 per cent, DH Pora 11.1 per cent, and Kulgam 10.98 per cent.

 

 Devsar recorded 10.25 per cent; Dooru, where congress leader GA Mir is contesting, recorded 10.42 per cent, Kokernag ST, 12 per cent, Anantnag West, 8.55 per cent, and West recorded 12 per cent.


Similarly, Srigufwara-Bijbehara, where Mehbooba Mufti's daughter Iltija Mufti is contesting, recorded 11.6 per cent turnout; Shangus-Anantnag East had  10.28 per cent turnout.

 

At Pahalgam it was 12.56 per cent, Kokernag 16 per cent. In the Chenab Valley region, Doda recorded a voter turnout of 13.98 per cent, Kishtwar at 15.02 per cent, and Bhaderwah at 15.1 per cent. 

 

Ramban saw 13.08 per cent, Banihal recorded 13.08 per cent, and Doda West registered 13.58 per cent. The state-wide voter turnout average stood at 11.11 per cent.

 

Voting began at 7 am and will conclude at 6 pm. Officials are expecting a higher voter turnout as the elections in J&K are being held after a decade.
