J&K polls: 46.12 pc voter turnout recorded till 3 pm

A total voter turnout of 46.12 per cent was recorded till 3 pm in phase II of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly (J&K) elections, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of J&K has said.

 

Elections are taking place in 26 Assembly constituencies of J&K, where polling is being held on Wednesday in phase-II of the general elections to the Legislative Assembly, said the Chief Electoral Officer of J&K, UT.

 

Voting began at 7 am amid tight security arrangements and is continuing peacefully across all 26 constituencies from both sides of the Pir Panjal ranges.

 

The Gulabgarh (ST) seat in the Jammu region recorded the overall highest voting percentage at 65.57, followed closely by Poonch Haveli at 62.91, EC data showed.

 

The maximum voting percentage among the 15 assembly segments in the Kashmir valley was recorded in Khansahib at 58.2. It was followed by Kangan (ST) at 56.55 per cent and Chrar-i-Sharief at 55.04 per cent.

 

The lowest percentage of voter turnout was recorded in Srinagar’s Habakadal constituency, which recorded only 13.28 per cent turnout till 3 pm.

Voting for the first phase ended on September 18, while voting for the last phase will be held on October 1. The counting of the votes will take place on October 8.

 

This is the first election taking place after a decade-long pause and the first for J&K as UT and without Article 370.

 

Voting on Wednesday is scheduled to conclude at 6 pm.
